I really did not want to do this, but my hand has been forced by time and annoyance factors.

About a year ago I ran across a very cool artist by the name of "cureineko" on FA: Link located here

X-Posted with some edits from FurryDrama_2 because it concerns a warning to artists.

TLDR:
If you get a request from AngelofDarkness block and ignore for your own sanity.  She will offer to pay and then turn around and give you excuses as to why she can't (and why you are ruining Christmas just for asking to be paid) and maybes turn into "you promised" because apparently requests r srs bsns. I'm apparently not even the third artist she has done this to (though the first to report ones done through PM), links are provided below. Posting because I wish I had known and was lucky to get warning just before things went sour.

Other cases like mine:
Link to a journal where she threatens to kill herself for not getting free art.
Link to a journal where she harasses said artist to force them to give her a free icon:
And to a previous one harassing the same artist:

New response.  Apparently it's OK because some hacker broke into her account and was PMing me for art of her character.  Right.
Link to a journal comment thread where this SAME excuse was used before.

_________________________________________

This is what I get for being nice to furries.

NOTE: Pics in links may or may not be work safe,  None are nudes but some are down to bra and panties.

Generally, I don't believe in giving away art, and when I do it's typically  sketches.  When I'm in the mood I post journal and I usually let people give me characters and vague situations and I use them to warm up for paid stuff.  I don't like specifics or detailed characters, if I'm unhappy with something I just skip over it.  I always put a disclaimer that I do the fun ones and leave the eh ones, as I absolutely hate those overly complicated characters with zillions of piercings etc.  And good god...what some people expect out of a free request O_O  Mind boggling.

However, for Christmas I thought I'd be generous since I usually only get a few and open requests, upgrading some randomly to full  color  pieces .

Ah, but here apparently is my mistake.  You see, some furries think that free full pieces are a cue to try to screw someone.  Now, I've heard sob stories before (hell I was PMed several this round, one who thought I gipped him or something), and generally I ignore 'em, but this one takes the cake and just keeps getting better and better.

When I posted this pinup of a dog in black stockings forEdwardElric1308, not less than 5 minutes later I receive this PM from a stranger called AngelofDarkness.

At first is not so bad...but then the insanity ensues. )

On a different note to people that like getting requests: at least watch the person, it's so rude to have someone come out of the blue demanding free art.  Also, the people that have the kinds of problems I pity don't throw them around to get free art.  They're respectable people who do their damndest to pick up whatever broken pieces are left and move on with their lives when trouble strikes. Gah.

Here's some interesting supplies for you furry artists. :) A near-complete coyote skeleton. Use the bones in art, or buy the missing parts (1 claw and a skull, maybe a few others that I missed) and articulate it.

It comes with 17 claws with in-claw bones, they are not pictured:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4207160839_96617e9a20_o.jpg

I am asking $85. That's less than $1 per bone.

At $85 you could also turn a profit by selling individual bones/grab bags, or buy the very few missing parts (namely 1 claw and a skull) and articulate it. Or use it in a LOT of jewelry.

Anyone interested? I do have it's skull and baculum, but the skull is missing 1 or 2 teeth and the back of the head has a hole (I am positive this poor yote had been hit with an ax). If you want the skull I could throw it in for another $14. It's 7.75" long and sealed.

My story: this gal ([info]modastrid) and I met through a community and hit it off, she was weird and cool and we both disliked the same people for the same reason (on a community) so we often PMed about that.

Then we had a disagreement, mostly when I saw her boasting about something she made in an ebay-seller warning post. And that really turns me off. A lot. It shaded my opinion of her in a totally different light. Ego and boasting in artists who sell their work just squicks me, big time.

But I decided to get past that, cause she still does some cool stuff. Then I saw her newest creations- animal pelts put into round necklace pendants (cabochons?) and I ordered one. It came with glue and dry skin sticking out of the top. I thought she had better crafstmanship than that. As a friend said to me: "visible glue is amatureish".

I ordered a 2nd one (mind you these were ordered and shipped at the same time, I had not seen the poor craftsmanship of the 1st yet) custom-made. I wanted a The Lion King inspired piece and I asked her to do a yin yang symbol of dark lion pelt and light warthog pelt. I was assured twice that they lay flush together:

Yeah they lay flat when they're glued down.

I asked for clarification: long post is long )

Do you want your work published in a conbook?

Eufuria is a brand new convention, to be held for the first time in June 2010 outside Copenhagen, Denmark. We're currently looking for art and short stories to round out our conbook, and would love to see submissions from you. The convention theme is "A Walk in the Park" and priority is given to works which fit this theme. We're also more likely to be able to fit your art if it is small enough to work as "flavor illustration" for otherwise-full pages, though we may also have space for larger work.

Art must be cleaned up, and we'd love to have it in color! Submit your work by emailing it to conbook@eufuria.org in a high-resolution (300 dpi) lossless format such as TIF; please put "ARTWORK" in the subject line so we can easily find the entries. Published artists will receive a mention with a website address of their choice in the conbook, and as a bonus, I will draw up an art card of one of your characters and mail it to you as additional compensation.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi all,
This is my experience with Exodite Dragon aka Astralabortion I just want to show everyone how difficult it can be with some artists. This really sucks cuz I REALLY dig his work.

Short version: We talked online about two commission. He gave me the price of $200, I paid him on 3/31/09, on 7/13/09 he said he wouldn't do it, and finally get my money back 9 months after original payment on 12/19/09 (today)

I was interested in selling home made knitted scarfs and hats, eventually moving up to blankets and what have you when I get larger needles.

I've been watching on here and often I've seen in the past advice on acquiring a TOS. I must be super slow, because after an hour of searching, I could not find these comments. As I am new to selling things online like this, I wanted to set up a TOS, for both me and the customer. I want them to know whats going on as much as I would want to, and I know reading over something like that would help.

What exactly should one put in a TOS though? I'm not fully sure.

I am sorry if you'd rather I not ask this here, but I know that you guys have it down pat what to do. I saw that advice asking is still ok, but did not see an update on the profile or a mod-post on what is exactly permitted.

I did google it, by the way. Didn't come up with any kind of helpful guide or anything.
Thank you in advanced.

Edit #1 - Oh man, thank you for all the advice. I have to actually sit down and put something together, so I'll upload my idea after its finished.

Hey all so I'm looking for an artist to design a bottle label for personal use. Ideally the art work would be done digitally so I can take to kinkos or something and have a sticker made from it. The basic concept is I'd like to have a feral European style dragon in green smoking a pipe with a pot leaf in the background. Again this is for personal use only and not for a commercial product. The final product will need to be about the size of an index card and I'd like to spend no more then $50 on this project.

If anybody is interested please comment and let me know, if you can provide examples of your work I'd be grateful.

Holy crap, what am I thinking offering ornament commissions this close to the holidays?!
Honestly, I came up with the idea yesterday, and really enjoyed painting them...
.. So I decided to take three commissions for them... To make sure they get out before Christmas, and arrive in time to be there for it.

Examples! )

So, as I said, I'm taking Three commissions for $10 dollars each.. If I happen to get done with these three before Wednesday, I may open up for more.

Just note me here on LJ, or on my FA: www.furaffinity.net/user/zippiner/

(I do have to request simple colors. I'm using paintpens for this, and only have a limited amount of colors on hand. If ou want to discuss what colors I have / am able to do, note me.)

Thanks for looking, and happy holidays!
